Glastron shows new models at dealer meeting

Here at Hunts Marine, we love Glastron. They're a company known for their trend-setting designs, like the Super Stable Vee (SSV) hull, that's one of the best (and most copied) today. If you're thinking of buying a Glastron boat, look no further than us. We have a wealth of knowledge about the company and their boats, a reservoir that was added to recently when we attended the firm's dealers meeting in the United States.

The Dealer Meeting

The Hunts Marine crew flew out to the USA for the annual Groupe Beneteau Dealer Meeting, where they saw, among other things, two of Glastron's new models on display.

The meeting was held in Petoskey, Michigan, a small lakeside town with a lot of charm and character. This is thanks, in part, to the abundance of Victorian-era architecture - the area has 400 homes on the National Historic register. Apart from the buildings, the other thing to catch your eye in the area is just how crystal blue the waters are - it's like being on a tropical island. Thankfully, Michigan was sufficiently far away from the destruction that Hurricane Irma dished up to other parts of the country.

Within Petoskey itself, the event took place at Bay Harbor, a strip found on the shores of Lake Michigan. Over 280 representatives from 133 dealerships were in attendance, as were folks from Groupe Beneteau's brands, including Glastron. The three days were packed with activities, presentations and cocktail dinners - there was even a hole-in-one contest!

Some new toys from Glastron

For all the beauty of the area, the real stars of the show were the two new models on display from Glastron - the GTD 200 and the GTD 205.

The GTD 200 has a 20-foot deck that comes in three different configurations - single console, dual console or dual console with a full windshield.

This is a boat great for all members of the family to ride in. It has a stern swimming platform, as well as a large U-shaped interior that can seat up to 11 passengers. There are also a number of other interesting features on board - a walk-through transom, a toilet with a pop-up privacy curtain, a ski pole and a stereo. The maximum horsepower you can fit the GTD 200 with is 200. The colour options available are White/Denim Blue, White/Crimson Red and White/Jet Black.

The GTD 205 is the sterndrive version of the GTD 200 - the only other difference is that the 205 also comes with a rear sun lounge, which is great for those long hot days out on the lake.

In terms of power, the 205 has the edge, with a maximum horsepower of 250. This is quite common in boats that come multiple engine configurations - sterndrives tend to be more powerful. There are other differences between sterndrives and outboards too. Outboards tend to be more fuel efficient, as they can achieve similar performance to sterndrive engines with a lower overall horsepower. This is partly due to the fact that an outboard motor can pack more horsepower into a lower weight - sterndrives with the same horsepower are almost always heavier.
