Why are Glastron boats so popular? An interview with our Director/Manager, Jon Hunt

Glastron boats have always been popular at Hunts Marine, and we recently won an award from the manufacturer that recognises this. The gong, for 'largest volume for a single store outside of North America' illustrates our dedication to providing only the highest-quality brands for Hunts Marine customers, with Glastron one of the best that money can buy.

We caught up with Jon Hunt, our Director/Manager to talk about the award, how it was won and just why Glastron machines continue to be so popular.

Hello there, Jon. Hunts Marine has just won an award for selling a whole lot of Glastron boats. What do you think it is that makes this brand so popular?

"Glastron's on-water performance is second-to-none, what with their world-famous, super-stable Vee hull."

"Glastron have been building top-quality boats for over 60 years, and this makes them one of the oldest and and most recognised manufacturers in America. Have you ever seen the James Bond film 'Live and Let Die'? In that movie, 007 (and the bad guys chasing him) jumps over a road in a Glastron boat - powered by an Evinrude engine, no less," says Jon.

It's not only their appearance in Roger Moore's first outing as 007 that endeared them to a generation of boat fans, though.

"Despite their longevity, Glastron are a brand that move with the times, and their boats are built with a legacy of style and muscle. Aesthetically, Glastron boats are very appealing, and the company has come up with some really clever ideas with regards to seating and internal layout," Jon continues.

"Their on-water performance is second-to-none, what with their world-famous, super-stable Vee hull. Additionally, most models have a choice of outboard, sterndrive or jet power - something that no other brand can offer."

Let's see that famous Bond boat jump again:

Why do you think it is that Hunts Marine in particular have sold so many Glastron products?

"We first took on the brand as the New South Wales distributor three years ago, and have never looked back. I think there are two main reasons why Hunts Marine has done so well with the product. The first are the stylings and features of the boats that we have already talked about, and the second is simple value-for-money," explains Jon.

"Despite their longevity, Glastron are a brand that move with the times, and their boats are built with a legacy of style and muscle."

So, why are Glastron products offered at such an attractive price with Hunts Marine?

"Because we deal directly with the factory in America, there is no middleman, meaning that we can offer Glastron's products at a lower price than other retailers. We also carry excellent stocks and are constantly ordering more from the the Glastron factory to keep up with demand!"

Sounds good! Are there any exciting new Glastron products in the pipeline?

"Yes, there are. For 2016/17, there is a new range of 18 and 20 foot jet-powered models with integrated rearward facing seats/sun loungers on the swim platform," indicates Jon.

That's not the only development on the horizon, though...

"With the release of the new Evinrude E-TEC G2 outboard engines, Glastron are developing models specifically with these in mind. Also, the E-TEC G2 engines can be colour-matched to your Glastron hull, which will give owners a craft that is truly unique to them.

Finally, do you expect Glastron's popularity in Australia to continue?

"Without doubt. We have a another four containers of boats arriving early in December, just in time for the summer. Glastron recently held their dealer conference in America, which is where the company release what will be new in 2017. There's some great stuff in the pipeline in terms of new models, colour schemes, layouts and power package options, so there's lots to look forward to from a Glastron point of view."

Why not come along and check out a Glastron first-hand at one of our three locations across New South Wales? We'll be happy to explain the finer points of the Glastrons displayed in our showrooms, and maybe even take you out for a spin!
