What are Australia’s three hardest fighting game fish?

Many of Hunts Marine's customers are keen anglers that love nothing more than taking a boat out, throwing in a line and waiting for a bite. The fishing off the coast of New South Wales is some of the best to be found anywhere, with a who's who of the world's hardest-fighting fish patrolling the water. Here are three of the area's most worthy adversaries - when you head out on your new vessel from Hunts Marine, you just know a bite from one of these beasts will end in a titanic tussle!

Blue marlin

The striped, black or white marlin are all sure to give you sore arms if they take your bait, but it's the blue variety that will give you the biggest battle of all. With some specimens reaching half a ton in weight - a combination of lithe muscle and sinewy power - the blue marlin is one of the fastest fish in the sea.

Tasty on your plate, for sure, but to get a yellowfin tuna there in the first place is going to take a monumental effort.

Once one has taken the bait, your reel will know all about it, screaming as the fishing plunges into the depths or leaps high above the surface in an effort to break free. This is a battle you won't win easily.

Yellowfin Tuna

Tasty on your plate, for sure, but to get a yellowfin tuna there in the first place is going to take a monumental effort. Not only are they ridiculously powerful, they also have a stamina that will see them fighting for hours on end. They are renowned for never giving up until cut loose or landed on the boat, so landing one will take all your skill and experience.

One of the most sought-after gamefish in the ocean, the yellowfin tuna is also staggeringly beautiful, only adding to its appeal.

Giant trevally

Any game fisherman worth his or her salt will give a respectful nod when asked if they've ever fought a giant trevally. Known in fishing circles simply as a GT, the fish is known as one of the toughest animals it's possible to hook with a rod and reel, owing to their stamina and never-say-die attitude.

Though they are far from the largest game fish - specimens average around 50 kilograms - pound for pound, there are few sea animals that can rival the GT for pure, brutal power.

Be sure to get in touch with the friendly team at Hunts Marine to find out how we can put together the perfect fishing vessel for you - one that will give you the best chance of landing one of these awesome fish!
