Hunts Marine is marking 80 years in business in 2026, celebrating eight decades at the forefront of Australia’s recreational boating industry.
In 1946, engineer and well-known local game fishing enthusiast Edwin Hunt pioneered the concept of providing standard design boats for immediate delivery - an idea that was revolutionary at the time. Edwin constructed his first showroom at Blakehurst and became a stockist of a range of wooden launches and plywood dinghies.
Hunts Marine has grown from that single showroom at Blakehurst in 1946 to three busy dealerships in 2026, and from timber boats to today’s beautifully crafted aluminium and plate rigs, with huge leaps in technical advancements. From being appointed the first Quintrex dealer in 1955, to starting the first stand-alone Sydney Boatshow in 1968 and in establishing the Boating Industry Association of NSW in 1970, Edwin, his son Peter and grandson Jon have been at the forefront of driving the boating industry in NSW.
While a lot has changed in eight decades, Hunts Marine has always been focused on one thing: helping people to have a great time on the water!
Today, Hunts Marine offers a wide range of leading boat brands including Quintrex, Cruise Craft, Haines Signature Boats, Yellowfin Plate Boats, Sportsman Boats Australia, Kingfisher and Extreme Boats NZ. The business also provides new and used boat servicing, along with a comprehensive range of boating and fishing parts and accessories.
Reflecting on the milestone, Managing Director Jon Hunt said, “80 years in business really is a remarkable achievement. I’m so proud of all the guys at Hunts Marine and grateful to our fantastic customers in Sydney, Wollongong and Batemans Bay and right up and down the coast.”
After 80 years in business, Hunts Marine continues to lead the market in quality new and used trailer boats, boat servicing and parts. Jon and his team are committed to providing personal and professional service, clear and competitive pricing and the best product range available, continuing the proud Hunts Marine tradition for the next generation of boaters.
